I predict that the officials put poison in the blue tablets(helps a person survive for many days without water or food) that Xander gave to Cassia.

Cassia loves Ky and when she heard he was going to be sent out of the society, she did not want to seperated from him, that's why she decided to travel out of the province to find him. Since the officials had datas collected about her, they could probably predict that she was going to find Ky and Xander would try to give her the tablets to help her out when she's having difficulties finding food or water outside the society. Becuase Cassia knew too much about the society's actions, the officials want her to be killed, that's why they simply put poison in the tablets. Also, Ky is an anomalies(citizens themselves or their parents that have done something that went against the rule of the society), officials were trying to get rid of all anomalies so they sent him away not caring about his life or death. 

A question I have is, why are the officials collecting datas of their citizens? Are they trying to figure out something? Maybe they are trying to figure out how people react to certain situation, so that they will be able to control their citizens more effectively.

A connection that I have is a text to text connection. I think that Cassia and Ky are similar to Romeo and Juliet, because Cassia and Romeo both were willing push through many dangerous situations just to be with who they love. Cassia was willing to go against the society to find Ky and Romeo was willing to go against his family to love Juliet.
